Chain-key Ethereum
Crypto Overview
Purpose and Utility
Chain-key Ethereum (ckETH) is a tokenized version of Ethereum that operates on the Internet Computer blockchain. Created by DFINITY Foundation, ckETH allows users to transfer Ethereum assets across to the Internet Computer ecosystem, enabling faster and potentially cheaper transactions while maintaining a direct backing to ETH.
Business Model
The protocol works by having users deposit ETH into a smart contract, which then mints an equivalent amount of ckETH on the Internet Computer. This creates a 1:1 relationship between ETH and ckETH. The business model is transparent and straightforward, focusing on providing an alternative scaling solution for Ethereum transactions.
Real-World Adoption
While still relatively new, ckETH has seen growing adoption within the Internet Computer ecosystem. The protocol maintains full backing of deposited ETH and provides clear utility through reduced transaction costs and increased speed compared to native ETH transactions.
Platform Development
DFINITY Foundation maintains active development of the ckETH infrastructure, with regular updates and improvements to the protocol. The project benefits from the broader Internet Computer ecosystem's robust development community.
Token Distribution
ckETH is minted based on actual ETH deposits, with no pre-mine or founder allocation. This creates a fair distribution model where tokens are only created when backed by actual ETH deposits.
