Livepeer is a decentralized video streaming network built on Ethereum. The protocol aims to provide cost-effective video infrastructure services through a network of node operators who stake LPT tokens to perform video transcoding work.
Purpose and Utility
LPT serves as a work token that node operators must stake to participate in the network and earn fees for processing video streams. The token also enables governance rights over protocol parameters and upgrades.
Business Model and Operations
The network operates through a marketplace where video streaming applications pay for transcoding services using ETH, while node operators stake LPT to earn these fees. This creates a legitimate utility-based ecosystem where value is exchanged for actual services.
Real-World Adoption
Livepeer has demonstrated growing adoption with notable partnerships including Brightcove and is being used by various video streaming platforms. The protocol has processed millions of minutes of video content, showing actual utility in practice.
Development Activity
