Origin Protocol is a blockchain platform focused on e-commerce and NFT infrastructure, launching in 2017. The protocol aims to enable peer-to-peer marketplaces and decentralized commerce through its OGN governance token and OUSD stablecoin.
Intended Utility
The OGN token serves multiple purposes: governance rights over the protocol, staking rewards, and access to exclusive NFT drops on Origin's Story marketplace. The token is integral to the protocol's DAO structure, allowing holders to vote on protocol changes and treasury allocations.
Actual Utility Assessment
The project demonstrates active development and real-world adoption: Story marketplace has processed significant NFT transactions, particularly in high-profile collections. The OUSD stablecoin has gained traction with growing TVL. Developer activity remains consistent based on GitHub metrics.
Token Distribution and Governance
Initial token distribution allocated 27.5% to founders/team with 2-4 year vesting periods. Approximately 35% was reserved for ecosystem development and community rewards. Current circulation shows declining founder concentration as vesting completes.
Revenue Model Analysis
Primary revenue streams come from NFT marketplace fees and OUSD yield generation. The protocol does not directly engage in interest-based lending, though OUSD's yield mechanisms warrant careful consideration from a Shariah perspective.
