Venus DOT (vDOT) is a token representing Polkadot (DOT) deposits in the Venus Protocol on BNB Chain. Venus is a decentralized money market and synthetic stablecoin protocol. When users deposit DOT into Venus, they receive vDOT tokens representing their deposit.
Purpose and Utility
The primary intended purpose of vDOT is to serve as a receipt token for DOT deposits in Venus Protocol. These deposits are then used as collateral for borrowing other assets or minting the protocol's stablecoin VAI. The actual usage aligns with this intended purpose, as users are actively using vDOT as collateral within the Venus ecosystem.
Business Model Analysis
The core business model involves lending and borrowing activities, with users earning interest on deposits and paying interest on loans. This model fundamentally involves riba (interest), which is not permissible in Islamic finance when not done as an act of charity. The protocol's primary revenue streams come from interest-based activities.
