Company Overview

Apple Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearables, and accessories. It also sells various related services, such as Apple Arcade, a game subscription service; Apple Music, Apple Card, Apple Pay, and Apple Card. The company serves consumers, small and mid-sized businesses; and the education, enterprise, and government markets.

Revenue Sources

Pass

Based on Apple's latest financial reports and SEC filings, the company's primary revenue streams come from hardware sales (iPhone, Mac, iPad, wearables), services (App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, AppleCare), and digital content distribution. None of these core business activities are inherently haram.

While the App Store does include some gaming applications, these represent legitimate software products with actual value exchange, not gambling services. The company's content distribution services have content filtering mechanisms in place.

Salaam, Jazak Allah Khair for your valuable platform and efforts. Regarding Apple though, according to the AAOIFI standards the revenue contributing from non-permissible sources is set at <5% although obviously closer to zero is always preferrable. Apple Services revenue seems well below this threshold. And Allah SWT knows best.

Salam brother, we use a 2.5% threshold, and actually apples services revenue is 23% of the total revenue of Apple.

Salam Allaykum, What services are Apple providing or what business model have they adopted that makes them less halal than Microsoft for example? I feel that if I'm going to join a group, I should also have better feedback. It would be a travesty if we did not perform greater Ijtihad to find how we can find our place in the financial world and make it work for the goodness of Allah SWT. Thank you.

You can look at the apple services breakdown and see that the majority comes from the apple store and licensing and there are other halal things on there like iCloud however allah knows the best and I would say it is questionable

Salam brother, This Adel from the PIF team.
Apple derives approximately 22% of its revenue from its services division, encompassing offerings such as Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Pay. However, we refrain from investing in Apple due to our discomfort with these revenue streams constituting more than 2.5% of its total revenue, which aligns with our investment criteria. Ultimately, Allah knows best.
